When I first contacted boutiques, spas, and salons, it didn’t occur to me to have a sample kit ready. In hindsight, it seems so obvious. One of the first salon owners that I contacted enthusiastically responded to my cold email by requesting a sample. Being unprepared, I offered to sell our full-size products at a discount, below wholesale prices. Needless to say, I did not hear back from her.
Later, as Geoff and I delivered a re-order to our local stockist, we asked them about other vendors’ sample policy. They told us that sample policies ran the gamut from free to full price, plus shipping. Some provided sample sizes while others provided full sizes. They, of course, prefer vendors that supply free samples (a no brainer there).
So as Geoff and I drove home, we decided to provide our potential stockists with sample sizes. That was the first big decision concerning samples. The rest was simple (I repeat, simple, not easy). As the saying goes, you only have one chance to make a first impression. The next step was to put together a smashing sample kit!
We chose a small glass spray bottle for Peppermint Mist. As Geoff puts it, this will take you through an entire date! Hear, hear to that. The Lavender Argan oil is also packaged in glass so the lavender essential oil doesn’t react with plastic. It’s perfect for a hand and foot massage. And the Peppermint Salt Scrub is just enough for one hand and elbow treatment or one foot treatment (for both feet that is!).
If you are a sample kit recipient reading this, a word of caution. It’s hot here now in Palm Desert so your Peppermint Salt Scrub may have melted in transit. But fear not, simply pop the container in the fridge for 30 minutes, and you are good to go! If you are a boutique, spa, or salon owner/buyer and are interested in our products, please contact me about a sample kit request.
